Back people I really like
I’ve had more than my fair share of back issues – it culminated in a Mirodiscectomy in early 2005, after some time using a wheelchair and feeling pretty depressed and concerned for my future mobility. I’ve become really critical of all of the supposed back specialists. Recently I met up with Lydia from Core Strength Studios. Now, the people at Core Strength Studios aren’t going to fix a broken back or perform a miracle cure, but they do know lots about rehabilitation and how to help you look after your back, helping you get to a better place. If you’re in trouble with your back pain, or you’d like to protect your back, give Lydia a call.
In Lydia’s own words:
“After working in the fitness industry as a personal trainer and sports therapist as well as managing a busy gym, in 2007 my business partner (a back pain specialist) and I decided to venture out on our own and open our own back pain studio. Our careers revolved around helping people achieve their goals, be it aesthetic or simply returning to function without pain, and we wanted to create a facility where we could bring more specialists on board and reach more people who needed our help.
80% of us will experience back pain at some point in our lives and I know first hand how debilitating it can be. Lots of people come to us in having had to stop doing something they enjoy doing or take time off work because of the pain they’re in. They assume back pain is just something they have to live with – that its part and parcel of getting older – but we love nothing more than proving them wrong! It’s so rewarding to be able to give someone their quality of life back and see them get back to doing the things they thought they’d have to give up forever.
We use a rehabilitation machine which is one of only three in the country which isolates and strengthens the back muscles. When you have back pain, the muscles in your back become weak and deconditioned, which leaves your spine vulnerable and decreases its support. The problem is when you try to strengthen your back traditionally, the stronger muscles of your legs and buttocks take over so you don’t actually strengthen your deep back muscles where you need it the most. By using the machine, our clients are able to see outstanding results in terms of both reducing pain and protecting their backs against future flare-ups.”
